1. Know your coffee's origin

At OR Coffee Roasters, we believe understanding the journey of your coffee enriches the experience of every cup. Kenya Kevote AA is sourced from the Kevote Wet Mill, located in Embu County on the slopes of Mount Kenya. Established in 1957, this mill is an essential hub for nearly 2,600 smallholder farmers in the area, each hand-picking ripe cherries from their farms to ensure the highest quality. The coffee is processed with care at Kevote’s three facilities, which are spread across the region to support farmers and sustain the community’s rich coffee-growing culture.

The central washing station plays a crucial role in ensuring a consistent and high-quality washed process, giving this coffee its clean, crisp character. Although Direct Trade is not possible due to Kenyan government regulations, we work closely with trusted partners to bring this exceptional coffee to you.

Embu County, situated northeast of Nairobi, is blessed with a high elevation, nutrient-rich volcanic soil, and a climate shaped by two rainy seasons. This unique environment, nurtured by six rivers, allows coffee to develop complex flavors that reflect the region’s distinctive terroir. Coffee farming is a way of life here, with nearly 80% of households engaged in agriculture and many delivering their harvest to local cooperatives and mills. Kevote Wet Mill supports this local community, governed by a democratically elected board that represents farmers’ voices and ensures their best interests are met.

We take a tailored approach to roasting Kenya Kevote AA to bring out its full potential. The coffee undergoes a light-to-medium roast that highlights its honey sweetness, fruity complexity, and tea-like qualities. By focusing on a gentler roast, we allow the coffee’s natural acidity and layered flavors to come through, making it ideal for filter brewing.
